Odessa 10 November 2001

Hotel room in the Chornoye More.
A segment of an amphora handle from Tyras, which we later donated to the Odessa Archaeology Museum.
Views of Odesa (Odessa).
War memorial and square with statue of Lenin. (???)
Statue of Lenin. Andre in front of the statue. Notice all of the flowers still laid in memorial for Lenin. I imagine, some for the man, some for the ideals, some for both.
Cat that ran into what appeared to be a hotel restaurant kitchen. Long story on this to follow..
Two cats, appearing as guards like monuments of sphinxes.
(???) enroute to the Archaeology Museum.
Statues beside the entry to the Odessa Opera House.
View from the end of Derybasivska. The harbor is in the distance. A small square is present here with a statue commemorating the city planner of old Odessa.
Statue of Frenchman Joesph De Ribas, city planner of early Odessa. De Ribas recaptured Odessa from the Ottoman Turks in 1789.
This statue does not appear favored for it portrays the founder in a cartoon-like state.
View of the Museum of Oriental and Western Art.
View of the decorative architecture of the older homes of Odessa.
Views of the former hotel and department store "Pasazh", that remained vacant for the past few years until recently. It was created in the style of the 19th century by the architects L. Vlodek and T. Fishel.
Views of Derybasivska.
Views from a traditional Ukrainian restaurant, "Komanets"(?)
Views of a Catholic Church near the Hotel Chornoye More.
